About Auschwitz Virtual Tour
The Auschwitz Virtual Tour entails regular online sessions about the former Auschwitz-Birkenau Death Camp. But this is not a typical webinar or seminar. In fact, it is the most faithful representation of a physical visit to the Auschwitz Memorial Site. The delivery is significantly enhanced by historical footage, accounts of former prisoners, visualizations, aerial overviews, and contemporary footage.
Thanks to the use of panoramic pictures and drone footage, we are able to explore every single spot and space at the memorial site. How does this work? We organize Zoom sessions, connecting with students online, narrating the visit while sharing original presentations, aerial videos, and historical footage. The virtual tour is designed for a maximum of 40 people per session. It will not be recorded or made public. It will not follow the format of a typical webinar where participants typically cannot see each other and their interaction with the educator is limited to a Q&A.
We propose the following framework:

Our sessions and lectures are run on 3DVISTA and PREZI applications. Auschwitz Virtual Tour is run by 3dVista application and it can be easily open on your browser that is fully and remotly controlled by the educator. It doesn't require any high level computer equipment, howevet we would like to follow the technical instructions below:
It is possible and even recommended to try to connect with us before the sessions and conduct a 5-minutes practice in terms of connecting and managing the system. We always propose to meet before the saession (the same day or some days before) to test the session. After scheduling the session You will receive a visual instruction how to join the session using Chrome browser. |
Dr. Jerzy Wójcik: "I would like these sessions to be, in a sense, private, intimate meetings during which all participants can see the educator, ask questions, and discuss important issues regarding Auschwitz."
We have had over 100,000 participants in the last 3 years. The overwhelming majority of participants' opinions constitute a diploma for our achievements. It testifies that the Auschwitz Virtual Tour is a great educational tool and has inspired us to continue and expand our program. We have decided to create other virtual tours, online lectures, workshops, and talks. You can read some of those comments...
Unforgettable experience
It will stay with You...
for the rest of your life...
After one of these sessions, in a small school in Alabama, every student handwrote thank you notes to us. Imagine what an experience it was for those students: not only the session itself or the visualization of this horrible crime, but also talking to someone living in a few miles away from Auschwitz. These students had never traveled out of their own state, let alone traveled to another country. Those handwritten letters are the greatest reward and distinction.
The Virtual Tour around Auschwitz aims to faithfully and precisely replicate a physical visit to the Auschwitz Memorial Site.
However, through the use of audiovisual techniques, we can significantly enhance this experience by incorporating historical recordings and aerial footage. What is most important, however, is that we, the educators, are being able to answer students' questions and provide in-depth explanations at any time. In this online system, the educator always interacts LIVE with the students.
The paramount aspect that remains unchanged is the NARRATIVE.

Concepts

To be honest, we have built an entirely new digital infrastructure for the Auschwitz Virtual Tour. I have combined historical footage, individual stories of survivors, and contemporary graphics technology. Prezi and 3dVista—one of the best presentation softwares—enables us to create a powerful, interactive presentation that has proven to be extremely successful. Participants of our sessions so far have truly appreciated the way the material has been arranged and presented.
